Dell laptop power supply.
A Dell laptop power supply comes with a power cord attached to the adapter or the brick which has another cord and connector that plugs in to the laptop. Apart from this there is also the battery located at the base of the laptop. The power cord charges the battery as you keep it plugged in to the laptop from a power source. Sometimes, one of these two might work while the other goes bad. You have to determine which is causing the issue and get it replaced. In case the charger is working but the battery is not getting charged, you can try reseating the battery. Also check if there is any message stating that you need to replace the battery. If so, then it is time for a new one. This is because batteries have chemicals in them and as they get charged and discharged every time, they tend to lose the charging power and finally become unusable. Generally, Dell laptop batteries come with only one year of warranty so if the laptop is under warranty, you can get it replaced for free. If it is the problem with the laptop charger, determine whether it is at the cord that plugs into the power source, the brick or the cable connecting to the laptop. For the cable that plugs in to the power outlet, you will notice that it is detachable. This cable can be easily replaced without having to get the entire power supply changed. However, if the problem is with the other two, the whole power supply needs to be replaced. For those with warranty, you can contact Dell support for replacement and unlike battery, as long as your laptop has warranty, this does too. For minor power cord issues, you can take it to the repair centre and they will replace the cord for a very less cost. Consider using original parts so that there will be no compatibility issues. The batteries might come with 6 cell or 9 cell replacements depending on your model, for example dell latitude d630 so you have an option of upgrading provided you are paying for it. In some cases, the repair centers can repair the power cord itself instead of replacing it with a new one if you decide to do so.
